Sustainable community living through responsible and focused utilization of your tax dollars. A clear vision of the future will keep White Rock strong into the next decade and beyond.
Tax Dollar Spending: There needs to be a respect for the residents and business owners of White Rock. Property tax increases should be held to the rate of inflation. And yes, that will be difficult to make happen, due to the current world economic crisis, and the drying up of provincial and federal transfer funds. However, tough budgetary spending decisions could keep any increases to a minimum. Those living on fixed incomes would be the first to benefit from that strategy. I have the ability to work with the current council and other community stakeholders. This will be critical in being able to find solutions to ongoing concerns and take advantage of opportunities that arise.
Development: Unbridled, unfocused development can only be detrimental to White Rock and its residents. There should also be a moratorium on high-rise building development, until those projects that have been approved are built, and the effects on the city’s infrastructure can be evaluated. Medium-rise structures make a lot of sense to increase the density within our city. The increased density should help offset the velocity of property tax increases.
Infrastructure: There are certain capital projects that need to be undertaken within the city in order to keep up with our current and future population base. This is in line with the national and provincial initiative to upgrade the infrastructure in the country.
Ecology: The "greening" of White Rock started many years ago; it's the nature of the city. Measures to keep White Rock ecologically sound continue with the banning of manufactured chemical herbicides. We have the best drinking water in BC and we need to keep it that way, with no chemicals leaching into our drinking water. The "economy of ecology" has the perfect synergy in White Rock. Ecotourism is live and well in numerous cities and countries around the world. What better backdrop could there be than the beach and green spaces around White Rock to develop this strategic environmental/economic sector?
